How to get there

Arriving in Antigua

Antigua is about 45 minutes from Guatemala City's international airport. January is perfect travel weather — clear skies, no rain, and warm days.

Airports

  • La Aurora International Airport (GUA) — Guatemala City. The main gateway. About 45–60 min from Antigua by shuttle or taxi.
  • No direct flights to Antigua; all guests arrive through GUA or connect via Mexico City (MEX), Miami (MIA), Houston (IAH), Atlanta (ATL), or Dallas (DFW).
  • Airlines: American, Delta, United, Alaska, and Avianca all serve GUA.
  • Book flights early — January is peak season in Guatemala.

Getting to Antigua

  • Shuttle Service (recommended) — Shared tourist shuttles run frequently from GUA airport directly to Antigua. ~$15–25 USD per person. Book in advance through Atitrans, Adventura Guatemala, or your hotel.
  • Private Transfer — ~$40–70 USD for a private car. Most hotels offer airport transfers. We recommend booking with your hotel for peace of mind.
  • Taxi — Available outside arrivals at GUA. Negotiate a fixed rate before getting in. Expect $50–70 USD.
  • Uber — Uber operates in Guatemala City but not in Antigua. Use it from GUA to connect, then arrange onward transport.

Visa & Entry

  • No visa required for citizens of the US, Canada, EU, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and most Latin American countries for stays up to 90 days.
  • A valid passport with at least 6 months validity required.
  • Guatemala is part of the CA-4 agreement with El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua — your 90 days counts across all four countries.
  • No vaccinations required, though a yellow fever certificate is needed if arriving from certain countries. Check travel.state.gov for the latest advisories.
  • No arrival card required — immigration is straightforward.

Getting Around Antigua

On Foot

Walk Everywhere

Antigua's historic centro is delightfully compact and entirely walkable on its cobblestone grid. Most hotels, restaurants, and sights are within a 15-minute walk of each other. Flat, comfortable shoes are strongly recommended — cobblestones and heels don't mix.

Tuk-Tuks

Tuk-Tuk Rides

Antigua's charming three-wheeled tuk-tuks are the local way to get around. Flag one down anywhere, agree on a price before you go (usually Q10–25 / ~$1.50–3 USD within town), and enjoy the ride. Tuk-tuks cannot enter certain pedestrian zones.

Currency

Money & Payments

The Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ) is the local currency. USD is widely accepted at hotels and tourist restaurants but you'll get better rates paying in Quetzales. ATMs are available in town. Credit cards accepted at most hotels; bring some cash for tuk-tuks, markets, and smaller restaurants.

Wedding Day Transport

Getting to & from the Venue

Guests are responsible for their own transportation to and from San José El Viejo on the wedding day. We recommend coordinating with your hotel to arrange a taxi or private transfer. Antigua is a small, walkable city and taxis are readily available throughout town.

Getting from the airport to Antigua: We recommend using the shuttle service offered by your selected hotel. Most of our recommended hotels provide airport transfers directly from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) — simply contact your hotel in advance to arrange pickup.
